After many years as professional musicians, Jecoliah and Mike Chien founded GMT in 2021 to connect families with exceptional teachers who are equally passionate about performance and pedagogy. Mike and his brother Mark began their violin studies at North Street School, but soon had to travel to New York City each weekend to access the level of instruction they needed. With GMT, we bring that same high-quality training directly to students here in Greenwich and the surrounding areas.

We’re fortunate that so many local schools include music as part of their curriculum, and as teachers, we believe that helping children find healthy, inspiring musical communities is key to supporting their passion. Our goal is to lay strong foundations in technique and musical understanding so students can thrive not only in lessons, but also in school orchestras, chamber groups, and beyond. These experiences—combining individualized instruction with ensemble playing—provide rich learning opportunities and lasting connections.

Students come to us with many different goals, and that’s part of what makes our work so rewarding. From young beginners exploring an instrument for the first time to dedicated high school seniors building college portfolios, our teachers take joy in guiding every stage of the musical journey.
